Dear Oliver,

“Let’s give them something to talk about”, the painting  2008

Must admit this project started backwards.

Yes it was a knee jerk reaction to a situation. Instead of being prepared with identity package, site design and systems and logical thinking in place, I just jumped in. No idea how to run or design a site. All I knew how to do was post. And post I have. And I thank you all so much because this morning I hit over 3000 view.

Thank you!

Quinta Ferreira Estate Winery

Knows how to throw a party for their 10 Year Anniversary.

The whole valley showed up to say congratulations to Maria and John Ferreira, owners of Quita Ferreira the only Winery in the city limits of Oliver. Lots of delicious  Paella prepared by Chef Jeff Van Geest. Rumour has it he even took some time, and they were busy, to make a special Paella without seafood for one of the guest – nice!

Everyone who was anyone was there! The wee Finnley just 3 weeks old in a styling little pair of blue gloves, might have been a tiny bit bored as he hung out with Grandma Louise Osmond the distributor of Wine Check Luggage, and Mom the lovely Jessica Wong.

Party girl Teddie Trobec 102 or 104, she still lies about her age, is always the first at a party and the last to leave. A serious hockey buff, we have something in common, mention the Canadians number 4 and we both giggle! Now who would that be? Teddies advice to us – Move your feet! So I got up and shook my booty to the tunes of Rebel Luv.

Mikie and Ken have been singing all weekend. Ken is assisting his bride with a little throat medicine.

Just a few of the guest Margarete and Horst. Love the Jackie O glasses Margarete and Horst looks styling in that little Hawaiian number.

EZRock Osoyoos’s Brock Jackson with his wife the beautiful Geraldine in that fabulous coral dress were enjoying the afternoon and music with friends Debbie and Tom from Osoyoos.

And here is the shot that makes my day! Teddie one hundred and something . .  with the wee Finnley 3 weeks. Next time they go to the same party they should call each other to make sure they don’t show up in the same colours. Precious!

Gossip! Found Ken and Maria snuggling!

Where is Mikie and John I ask myself, oh dear they are snuggling behind the bar . . I see nothing!

The beautiful and very talented Carmen Tomé is the resident artist at Quinta Ferriera. Her latest painting “Surfs Up” was done a bit differently. When enjoying the wines and atmosphere ask Carmen about the painting.

Such a lovely afternoon with the Dressmaker Dianne and Moya. We were minding our own business as only a gossip columnist can when Betty Lou and the chain gang show up!

The next thing we know a lovely Police officer with a big gun is on site looking for someone. Of course the culprit is at our table dressed in a lovely striped dress, perfect attire for the big house!

Turns out Trudy parked just a little too far onto the road. She can’t have her passengers getting out of the car and stabbing a rattler with a stiletto, a girl has got to be considerate.

We thank the Officer for not ticketing her. He just asked her to move her car into the rattlesnake zone!!

And just incase Trudy was going to run Uncle Larry Popoff and his nephew Dan Rywaczuk, real estate guy were ready to track her down with this drone. I love a good drone.

And by that time this gossip columnist had lost her voice and needed to go home, rest, enjoy a few teaspoons of Benylin and accessorize with a box of kleenex and a sleep mask!

Only in Oliver!

Good Morning Oliver!

Welcome to another day in paradise! Sunday is one of my 7 fav days!

This is so much fun writing about Oliver and the people! I must thank you all who have taken a peek at the site.

Please feel free to send me your stories, 400 words or less and photos. We want to know lots of good news. Yes I want your new baby announcements, fav places to get your nails done, the hottest go fast cars in town and your accomplishments you want to share.

Please tell me what you want to see. I have plans for this site and your opinion is important to me.

I am on a learning curve at the moment. My goal is to be totally up and running, having the site look like I want it to look and have figured out the logistics of moving and linking info by Sept 1.

I will be out and about this afternoon and will have lots of gossip to report this evening. Stay tuned and remember when I point my camera at you, say hi!

The Perfect Accessory

Scientist Steven Boyd knows the perfect accessory to wear when having a photo shoot – his dog, Bailey! Much more styling than a basic lab coat!

Madeline, Steve, Bailey, Marion and Duncan

One of Oliver’s most accomplished sons is home for a summer vacation.

SOSS grad, Professor Steven Boyd spends some of his time with astronauts down at NASA, I get to do just a little name dropping, testing the density of their bones before and after space missions.

His goal is to study the restorative time frame and health of the astronauts bone density after they return to earth. This research is valuable for us mere earthlings whose bones turn to swiss cheese as we age. The Professor’s research will have valuable info on how we can keep our bones strong and stay out of those scary hip replacement operating rooms.

Must gossip! A wee story about this accomplished young man 13 days before he was born.

His Mom Marion Boyd, Dad is the handsome Bill Boyd, was dancing up a storm New Year’s Eve, wearing, yes I can still remember the dress, an A-line sapphire blue sequined little number. My stars I thought he would pop out on the dance floor the way she was rockin’ and rollin’. I have other stories but I will save them for another time.

What Steve likes the best about his home town of Oliver, Mt Baldy and the simplicity. Like the Oliver Theatre, big screen, a great price and we all agree on this . . the popcorn!

Congratulations on your accomplishments Professor Boyd, you make Oliver proud!

Where the Boys Are.

Shopping with Mom!

Axel, 4 and ¾, left, styling that Dinosaur shirt and Adam who did not want to tell me his age, he might have been doing a bit of blueberry testing, were very helpful pushing their Mom’s, groceries around Buy Low.

For those of us that have been around since the dinosaur age, it is obvious Axel’s shirt represents a tyrannosaurus rex. I remember them well. Axel likes to shop at BuyLow because they let him eat apples and he likes apples.

Adam has got this grocery shopping down pat. Mom, Emily says she loves Buy Low,  it is kid friendly with the mini carts and the free fruit! I like to shop there too because I like the people that work there!

Lots of gossip to be found in the grocery store.

Good Morning Oliver!!!

It was one of those weekends where I just lay around and drank and slept and slept and slept. This is the worst cold I have had in years.

When my friends are sick I always offer them Jungle Juice. I swear by it.

Jungle juice.

  • One lemon rolled on counter, grate the rind, cut in half squeeze juice in jug, julienne the left over rind into jug
  • 2 pieces of ginseng
  • garlic clove
  • same amount of ginger
  • a few shakes of turmeric
  • a few shakes of cayenne pepper
  • Honey

Add hot water and enjoy, taste a bit like neo citron but you can pronounce all the words! You can also cut it with bubbly water very tasty!

I also got plastered!!!

  • 1 table spoon hot mustard
  • 2 table spoons flour
  • add water to make paste.

Smooth onto a tea towel, not your nice french ones!

Place on chest for about 20 min.

Be very careful not to burn yourself

I think this is what broke up the cold!

Stay healthy, ’cause I do need to gossip about you and if you are home with a cold, how can I gossip about you!!

Enjoy another fine day in paradise!

Colours Colours Everywhere

Love the gold paint at Alberto’s Decorating Centre, however there is a lot more colours to be found.

Fashionista Alberto, styling in this magenta shirt, accented with cobalt blue lines and the distinctive dot of Austrailian Aborignal art work, holds its own among all the colours to choose from for your painting pleasure! Alberto bought this little number in Australia when last visiting the kids.

The cobalt blue lines converge in a three point traditional design representing the three points of reference the Aboriginals used for directions exploring the outback. The points would guide them home from the wild.

Alberto said squirrels use the same technique when hiding and finding their food.

More than just colours at Albertos’s! Talk to Tracy and Petra to see what else is happening at Alberto’s Decorating Centre just out of town on Highway 97.
