Down on Main Street

Who’s that painting on the street?

Lorraine Horn!

We met Lorraine’s work yesterday, her black and white egress painting is hanging in the Burrowing Owl Guest House Gallery. Caught up with Lorraine painting on the street in front of Sue Schaffrick’s Oliver Shoe and Fashion.

In 2013 Lorraine saw some paintings and thought “I can do just as good . . now I am not so sure.” Four years of painting later, this is the results. Beautiful!

Eagle Owl, 2017 by Lorraine Horn

Lorraine is using lots of texture with gel medium. Look closely at this painting you can see the tips of the wings are actually built up about half an inch from the canvas and the faded background visually pushes the Owl off the canvas.

Painting gives Lorraine a sense of peace and excitement!  Like all artists she is her own worst critic, as she strives to feel the WOW factor. Lorraine don’t worry, I got that covered for you . . WOW!

Who inspires Lorraine – Diane Gane! Me too!

August 12, Diane will be the feature artist at the Firehall Brewery Back Alley Concerts featuring the music of Terence Jack and the wine from Hidden Chapel Winery!

The message Lorraine wants to send out to Oliver is – let’s bring the community together, let’s be neighbourly! Come on down to Main Street, take some time to wander through the Sagebrusher’s Gallery. It is free to look, come and see the talent Oliver has to offer!

Take a moment to have a chat with Lorraine and give her that WOW she is working so hard to achieve. You’ll put a big smile on her face!

Wine Tasting with the Ladies

First stop Montakarn Estate Winery on Black Sage Rd. Just look for the red roof.

Moya, Sue, and the Dressmaker Dianne, were greeted and entertained by owner, Gary, styling an electrifying blue dragon print shirt, available off the wrack in the winery. Lots more colours and prints too. Rumour has it they even sell matching underwear . . briefs or boxers! Come see.

Next stop Bartier Brothers, ran into Ron from Vine to Wine tours carrying out a box of wine for Barbara & Wayne Tucker from Topsail, Newfoundland and Anita and David Tucker for Lethbridge, Alberta.

Continuing along Black Sage Rd. we stopped in at Platinum Bench Winery and Bakery. We are greeted by Wally, the Portuguese Water dog  – treats just inside to the right, jar marked “treats”.

Treats for the people are wonderful morsels of breads paired to your wine, very nice! Owner and baker, Fiona, makes about 280 loaves of bread a day. Such a special treat!

While the ladies were tasting at the Burrowing Owl, I slipped away and took a look at the Private Guest House Gallery. Love this by Lorraine Horn.

Love this by Hella Prochaska, there is a lot more beautiful art in the gallery, these two spoke to me.

Final stop C.C. Jentsch Cellars, where we were totally educated and entertained by Michael.

The ladie’s tastebud were tickled by refreshing whites and some bold reds. I enjoyed some very nice 2017 Okanagan waters, someone needed to be the D.D. We want to be responsible out there. Cheers!

Shopping on Main Street!

Nadine, rocking that wolf tee and daughter Arwyn, 7, were spotted in Beyond Bliss. Arwyn was deciding the best style purse to go with her little outfit! We do like this one, she can fit her bathing suit and towel in it because her fav thing to do is go to the outdoor pool at Parks and Rec and go swimming  – ’cause it is really fun!

Estate Sale McGowan Subdivision

Cruising around I found an Estate Sale on McGowan Road just off of Tuc el Nuit road. Found a few treasures, lots left.

Met the amazing singing impersonator Peggy Kinsman, styling that pink top with best friend Brenda Drescher, secretary of the Oliver Tennis Club. Peggy broke in to a little Brenda Lee for the patrons at the estate sale!

Treasures people, lots of treasures!

Back Alley Concert Series at the Fireside Brewery

Back Alley Concert Series at the Firehall Brewery

Good Morning Oliver!

As the Gossip columnist I need my beauty sleep after Partying very late last night with The Dressmaker Dianne Gibson and the amazing band Middle Coast! Which means I was in front of a book with my cup of tea by 11, way past my bed time!

What a night! MC for the night was Councillor Larry Schwartzenberger who was spotted cuddling up to his beautiful, soft spoken wife, Claire.

The feature Artist of the night was the amazing photog Ed Dukes. Ed knows the perfect accessory for his blue shirt with a hint of Hawaiian design –  his hand made four string electric Bass Guitar. This is the latest guitar he has built. The body and neck are made from “Sapele” a large native tree to Tropical Africa and the fingerboard is made from African Ebony. The inlays are Walnut. This is Ed’s favourite guitar to play. Simply Beautiful!

Middle Coast rocked the evening and had us all up on the dance floor, yuppers even me! Big thanks to Jim Rhuland, styling in a loose white shirt, who does all the behind the scenes work, and on the left York, Dale Cory’s son is in town for a little father son mischief.

Speaking of Father & Son mischief, here they are loving the music. Check out Dale’s southokanagandaily.com for something a little more than just gossip!

Our Rebel Luv honeymooners where seen getting a little close on the dance floor. Mikie all in purple tonight, wears that purple hair like no one else can.

The Dressmaker Dianne Gibson and my haircutter, the fabulous watercolour artist Luba, who never complains when I take the sewing scissors to my hair, well . . their was that one time, were out on the dance floor just a shaken it! Luba was stunning in a little mini showing off those fabulous legs of hers.

Snackies were from Vagabond. Pilot Graeme Uhlemann and Navigator Vivian Fung, gave me a tour of the beautiful food truck. Rumour has it this is one of 8 built by two aircraft fabricators in Sydney BC. This vehicle has been converted from a trailer to a motor home and now to their mobile kitchen.

And as we know, go fast machines make my teeth sweat. Saw this pretty little Harley parked all by it self. NICE! One of the prettiest motorcycles I have seen.

RipOff Artist JoAnn Turner brings artist Myfanwy Spencer to Oliver

Chatting more to RipOff Artist JoAnn Turner, I realized that part of her project was very close to my heart. Come to the Wrap Party at 3:00 and check out the story of Victora Artist Myfanwy Spencer and her portrait of Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau that hangs in Parliament. She received the Order of Canada in 1985! A girl after my own heart!

Back at the RipOff’s

Marion Boyd looked fabulous as she entertained her visiting family around town. Left sister, Artist Jean Gardiner, love her Woman with backbone series! Cuddling up in green is grandson Connor, RipOff Artist Bethany, and Marion’s delightful granddaughter Caitlan, knows how to rock a Paris Tee!
