Soap Theatre Presents

https://www.soplayers.ca/the-games-afoot.html

Totally enjoyed the rehearsal of  The Game’s Afoot last night at the Frank Venables Theatre.

Loved the set, beautifully crafted!

The actors delivered their lines with such talent and timing I followed the story with a big smile on my face! Love who done its and this plot had twists and more twists.

A great evening out in our creative little town.

The director, Ted Osborne keeps track of the actors lines and the congo line. Left to right Nathan Linders, Angela Stuart, Connie Mythen, Craig Bjornson, Jen Jensen and Jim Dinwoodie!

Caught in the act, a little behind the scene cuddles between Jim Dinwoodie and Diane Gludovatz!

The little surprise, Andrea Furlan took a moment from her rehearsal cards to give me that cheeky poise!

Now Mother . . .

Andrea Furlan looks confused as Inspector Goring.

The Game’s A Foot by Ken Ludwig. Great fun for the whole family! 3 shows Nov 2, 3, and 4 at 7:30.  Plus a matinee Saturday at 2:00. Tickets available at the door or online.

On the Road with Cub Reporter Kiera.

 Story and photos by Kiera

Today is the first day of heading to Canmore. Our adventure starts at 8:30 am

Everyone said its going to be a great drive today perfect weather and perfect road conditions. I believe they have jynxed us. . .

In Revelstoke a mud slide happened at 7 last night. The highway finally has open to let people pass through. It took 12 hours but we made it. Lucky leaving this morning rather than yesterday.

As we look and explore from our car seats we do our typical tunnel yelling.

We scream tunnel with out taking a break till the end of the tunnel!

These are what real mountains look like!

At 17:20 we hit Alberta. (Mountain time)

A little after we hit Banff, we get to see the animal bridges. Animal bridges are exactly what they sound like. They are bridges over the highway allowing animals to cross over them safely so we dont hit them and they dont hit us.

No generation gap here! Legion 97 supports Skateboard Park!

Thank you to Oliver Legion 97 for their donation to the Small Wheels Park campaign.

Front Carol Sheridan, Chris Yerburgh, Justice Baptiste, Peter McKenna and Teacher Jesse McKinnon. Waiting on the half pike, James Tyusiak, Shelby Smith and Troy Van Wort.

Justice does a perfect Ollie over of the cheque held by Shelby and James.

Carol, manager of Oliver Parks and Rec, took some time to talk and brain storm with the Skaters. Stay tuned some great ideas came from this chat!

Justice, 16 says this gives us more opportunities to get better. A better park will attract sponsors and pros. It is in a great location for tourist going by, it can be seen from the road. All skaters agreed it was great excercise and they spend more time skating than in front of the computer gaming.

Carol pointed out that Skateboarding will be an Olympic sport in Tokyo in 2020. Will these young men be the first to bring home a medal to Oliver?

Justice has been on his board for 9 years “I am connected to the board, it is literally part of my nerves!”

Peter McKenna for Oliver Council

What are you thinking! Running for council, opening yourself up to public scrutiny?

Always been interested, always worked on campaigns, I have now decided to put my name in the ring!

When on council, how do you represent people with an opposite opinion to yours, specially if theirs is the majority?

You listen, take in thoughts, ideas and considerations. Look at the pros and con’s. Make a decision. You will not be popular with everyone!

Name a historical leader you admire.

JFK. He was a leader! Knew what he wanted, knew how to listen and knew how to work with people.

Define leadership.

A leader is someone who is respected, listens, makes decisions for the betterment of the town and country.

What do you want to say to those who see only a bald man?

A lot of thought went through this head of mine. Had to pull my hair out sometimes, all for the betterment of the cause!

Why should we trust you?

I’m honest! Trustworthy, and have been respected by every group I have belonged too.

Would you rather live in a good dictatorship or a bad democracy?

Neither! If you are corrupt there is no honesty, no respect you loose support! Nothing should be under dictatorship!

It is the word of the people that counts!

Barb Levant, Spinner, Weaver and RipOff Artist

“Another brick in the wall”

Barbs creation for this years RipOff theme was a brick, from a book binding course, covered with her rendition of the 10 dollar Canadian Bill. You can see Sir John A and two tee pee’s. On the sides a flag, salmon and a raven for good luck. all woven with perfection.

It is weaving and spinning that brings delight to Barb’s heart. Barb and 60 plus other like minded Spinners and Weavers met at Oliver Parks and Rec Thursday mornings. They have two floor looms, hidden in the store rooms. They share their knowledge with each other and bring in top instructors. The goal is to pass down the crafts of spinning and weaving to the young people.

Young people get board of the computer stuff and need to do something with the other side of the brain, making things with their hands. Physically building something, says Barb.

Barb started sewing then needed more. Her sister suggested weaving to make her own fabric. She took a weaving course, said to herself, “I can do this and the rest is history! Love her work!!

Check out the Desert Sage Spinner and Weavers, and if you ask nice they might put a group together to teach you how to knit!

Fiona Wood for Oliver Council

What are you thinking! Running for council, opening yourself up to public scrutiny?

I have been on the School Board so I have some knowledge of what is involved and I have the time to make the commitment to what is involved.

When on council, how do you represent people with an opposite opinion to yours, specially if theirs is the majority?

I am a good listener. I would review the issue and make an informed decision based on that.

Name a historical leader you admire.

Queen Elizabeth II, she has character and class.

Define leadership.

You have to be a good listener, guide and direct the community.

What do you want to say to those who only see a lady with grey hair.

I am in fashion! I dyed my hair for years but I have decided to go all natural. To hell with the chemicals!

Why should we trust you?

I have always been honest, dependable, don’t jump into things without checking the commitment required.

Would you rather live in a bad democracy or a good dictatorship!

That is a hard one, there are pros and cons for each side.
