Ladies that Paint

The wild ladies of Greenleaves, yuppers the ones with the infamous reputation, wanted to paint Blackbirds on Bullrushes. With great concentration they attacked their canvases! In between a wee sip of wine, of course! The final results –  amazing! Same subject mater, totally unique masterpieces. Very proud of them. Well done ladies! Thank you! I had great fun with you tonight!

Young People in Black and White, meet Allison!

Miss Allison 14, who describes herself as artistic, came into the gallery with her Mom, Adrianne to enjoy some of the art.

We got to talking and I asked her some of my questions. This is what this busy teen said.

How do you entertain yourself?

I paint, now I am using alcohol ink and I read, I am reading “The Vampires” at the moment.

Do you have a fav song from your parents generation?

Bye Bye Miss American Pie.

Who are your heroes?

My Mom, Sister and Dad, they always taught me to be nice to people and not to let people put me down.

What is the dumbest thing in school?

Gym, it is really boring!

Do you have a fav time in history?

The Roman Empire is interesting.

Do politics affect you?

No Politics doesn’t matter to me, I’m not interested.

What do you want to ask me?

Do you Paint?

“Yuppers I do!”

If you could write a song about Oliver how would it start?

Happy People, Happy place!

Flamenco, tonight at the Frank Venables Theatre

Flamenco Rosario coming to the stage at the Venables Theatre April 9, 2018. Image Credit: David Cooper / Pictured are Rosario Ancer and Victor Kolstee

Flamenco Rosario Ancer and husband Victor Kolstee, Guitarist, took some time to explain the history and some of the technical aspects of Flamenco, the very expressive Spanish dance style, to a full audience in the lobby of the Frank Venables Theatre! Dancer Andrea got a few pointers!

“I just jump into the hurricane” Flamenco Rosario says “I am at home on the stage when I am talking with my feet!”. Love that statement!

The Audience asked about Hand-Clapping, and we got a great demonstration of how to hold and curve our hands for different sounds.

Victor told us a bit about the history of Flamenco and how it is changing. Also like all arts the young dancers are making it their own.

Flamenco Rosario’s passion for the dance and a desire to share her skills with the young people has lead to her school the Centro Flamenco in Vancouver.

Her dance “La Monarca” dedicated to immigration through the flight of the Monarch Butterfly, is performed by an 8 member company of dancers and musicians.

Still a few tickets at the door. This is going to be amazing!

Flamenco Rosario smiles as she tells you she has to promote “Flamenco” pass on her knowledge and through her school, this Flamenco Monarca Butterfly has made many more Butterflies.

“La Monarca” tonight at 7:30 at the Frank Venables Theatre 6100 Gala St.

Lorraine Horn’s show opened to a full house. This unique, sculptural collection is a delight to enjoy! Great fun was had by all.Eleanor fellow artist, left and Lorraine, styling in a long black dress and a gorgeous red taffeta jacket looked stunning for her opening!

Sally my enforcer, long time reining Queen of the Oliver Art World, with Brandon a student of ours from years ago . . . how did he get so tall? . . .with the styling happy artist Lorraine. Brittney, the artist Granddaughter, was as styling as her Grandma. So nice to see the generations at the art show.

Cliff Remple

What a gorgeous, loving couple Lorraine and Rob Horn.

Such a fun opening! Lots of people enjoyed the art, met new people, and I over heard some interesting conversation going on!

It was a delight to see lots of young people there.

And the “bohemian artists” Diane Gane, Dianne Gibson, Diane Carter, Wendy Bailey and Moi were all on our best behaviour because we had Pastor Jason, great guy and Pastor Jeremy, finally got to formally met him, talented photog, in the house! It was hard but we did good!

Nice to see Glen the principal of You Learn, we have worked together for many years! There might be a story here in the future. You Learn is a great program!

Chiropractor Dr. Brandt Leinor and family, lots of talent here! Brandt is another amazing photog, were out to support Lorraine.

The Arts are so well supported in Oliver, I thank the community.

Lorraine’s show will be in the gallery till the end of the month. She will also be painting in the gallery a few days a week. Come on down and have some fun chatting up the Artist!

The Plainsrunner Chapter 3 & 4

Screen-Shot-2018-02-04-at-3.56

“There are two chapters together today, because one of them is pretty small.  In chapter three, Sage learned a little about the artifact, but just enough to make her wonder even more.  Today she experiments a little with it, and has her first experience with a day flier.  As her exile becomes more real, she begins to wonder if she will survive, and what would be the point.
