Oliver’s World Record Cherry Pie Experience Re – Lived!

Happy Happy Sunday!
Okay so we woke up to a cloudy Sunday! Born in Vancouver, a cloudy day in Oliver feels like being wrapped in a warm sweater.
It was beautiful and sunny yesterday and here are the photos to remember it by. Such a beautiful, clean little town!
A few views of our famous bluff.
Oliver is a little town preparing for take off! And oliveronline.ca will be part of it!
The Bluff ‘s name is in transition to nʕaylintn (Ny-lin-tn) from McIntyre Bluff. (could not find info if the paperwork for the name change has been completed)
Showing off a handsome profile it is 265 metres of white granite, yup I have climbed it . . once!
The First Nations have great legends of fierce battles fought on top of the bluff and the losers . . . well they sort of fell off and died. It’s haunted too!
The English named the landmark after Peter McIntyre, a guard on the famous Pony Express in the Wild West and rumoured to have live at the foot of the cliffs.
It is the land here that called to me when I felt it was time to leave the city. It is so beautiful!
Enjoy the sunshine! ‘Cause at the moment it is . . .
“Welcome to the desert, come on in out of the rain”
And walking in the rain is an awesome thing to enjoy in Oliver!

This little guy was hanging out on Main St! Watchin’ all the cars go by!

The story spans 30 years and half a dozen meetings between Bud, a salesman and Molly, his boss’s wife.
Sharing the role of Bud are SOAP veteran Patrick Turner, playing young Bud, and soon to be SOAP regular Clem Jones, playing the role of Older Bud. Bud is smitten from the very first meeting while Molly, played by newcomers Sarah Wilkie and Lyn Kaulback, let’s just say, is less so.
The play moves forward and back through their sporadic encounters, mostly manufactured by Bud, with each character baring their heart and soul to the other in poignant monologues. The cast is rounded out by Tracey Henderson, Jeff Smith and Chelsea Cameron-Horner, who are all up to the fun challenge on playing multiple roles.

Canada’s preeminent comic playwright, Norm Foster, has written a clever and witty dialogue celebrating the pursuit of love, the kind of love that ‘makes you breathe just a little bit faster.’ Charmingly written, Foster’s use of one-liners serves the script well and has the audience smiling, chuckling and laughing throughout the play. Directed by Jen Jensen and Produced by Nathan Linders, “Old Love” will leave you grinning from ear to ear.
You can catch SOAP Theatre’s production of Old Love in Oliver at Frank Venables Theatre February 2 & 3 and In Osoyoos at OSS Theatre on February 9 & 10. All shows are at 7:30 with a special matinee in Oliver on February 3rd at 2:00. Tickets and information can be found at www.venablestheatre.ca
I must dedicate the Opening of Finding Beauty, Life in a Small Town and these photos to Mr. Jim Waldie, my highschool art teacher, who failed me at everything in grade 12 and Mrs. McVicar the Oliver High School art teacher, who has great ideas for her kids!
Way back in the 90’s I was having a cover unveiling, I invited Mr. Waldie to the show to thank him for failing me.
It was a major lesson in my career and I am glad it happened in grade 12. I realized if I was going to be a successful Artist, I better step up to the plate.
At the Show I thanked him publicly and we told the story of skipping out over a 100 days.
Whatever . . .
I did do the work I said I would, just not at school and on my own schedule. I was horrified that he failed me! Me! Ar – teest!
We have been great friends ever since we reconnected at that show. I still like to thank him!
The South Okanagan Secondary School Senior Photography semester End Show was a grand success!
A full house enjoyed the work of Mrs. McVicar’s Photography students.

There were proud Mom’s!

Happy Grandparents!

And very impressed Dad’s!
Talented Girlfriends!
Brothers and someone who is growing new teeth!
Students with talent!
Students with great futures!
And just some good friends!
The town of Oliver came out for an evening of photography and great fun was had by all!
The Show will be up till the middle of February!
The Sagebrushers with Miss Sally Franks, President and Mother Art of Oliver, are preparing for their next show at Medici’s. This talented group of artist will be showing their latest black and white paintings!
Sally invites all interested, talent optional, to join the Sagebrushes Tuesday at 9 in the morning, Airport Rd. next to Big Blue. They have great coffee and really good treats!
We live in Paradise, complete with an airport for the private jet set.
At the Gallery, Girlfriend is entertaining a new date. Diane Gane is painting him up in a styling zentangle design. She will be here on regular bases painting him. Do come by and watch her progress. He seems to have lost his head for her . . . a little romance in the Gallery!
