Good Morning Oliver!

What a fabulous long weekend!

Did anyone attended the Royal Wedding? I love a good romance.

I reduced Mount MacDuck to a very manageable state and I will be having a garage sale on Saturday morning!

After four days at home unpacking, finding my pots and pans was big, camping with one pot is not my cooking style! I can’t believe some of the stuff I have collected over the years. Glassware, books, dolls, just fun stuff that I don’t want anymore. I might part with my 150 champagne glasses . . . maybe.

Lots of changes this week.

Knock this one off the Bucket List. I will be shutting down the LezaMacdonaldArtGallery at the end of the week.

I always thought I wanted a gallery, doesn’t every artist. I loved doing the work, hanging the shows, filling the holes in the walls, and hanging with the Artist.

I learned that I did not like being in the same place at the same time on a regular basis.

I am a photographer, I might have spent a few days at a time in the same location however most of the time I was all over the place. I found being at the gallery difficult and I could not do my own art. I am very selfish that way I must do my art first or I will crash!

Having the gallery was an awesome experience! I thank Mo from Beyond Bliss for giving me the opportunity! I think Sarah, Cass and Krystal are amazing young women and I met a lot of fabulous people I would not have. I will be popping in and out of their new location! They are not getting rid of me that easy.

A big thank you to the Artists, Diane Gane, Linda Anderson, Nick Robertson, Dawn MacRae, Sally Franks, Tara Hovanes, Marion Trimble and a special thank you to Miss Emma and Miss Ava, both 11 years old and both had great show.

And a big thank you to the Patrons.

The gallery was fun, a learning process, some very surprising moments and the bottom line is, a profit was made.

What is next?

I will be concentrating on oliveronline.ca!

Stay tuned.

Have yourself a great week in paradise!

The Ribbon is cut and the Oliver & District Heritage Society Museum is Open!

The permanent exhibit Deep Roots is officially open. Oliver this is your history, check this out!

Julianna and Manda, the hard working women behind the scene cut the ribbon!

Marianne and Kurt checking out the exhibits! You can see the photo booth behind them. Now that is fun. The booth is full of hats and costume with a green screen and a real high tech Selfie system that can instantly send your photo anywhere in the world.

Wander through and see the Soap Box Derby trophy from the ’50’s. Gorgeous Trophy! And we still have soap box derbies here in Oliver.

Go spend some time in jail! Check out the accommodations complete with spittoon and thunder pot.

The Oliver Museum is THE place for history buffs like Jess, a photographer with a passion for finding our what happened to the Townsite of Fairview. Keep us informed of your finds Jess.

Oliver Councillors Larry and Petra, with MP Dick Canning celebrate the opening with Heritage Prez, Sue Morhun.

What an interesting place to spend some time. The Artifacts are beautifully displayed. Lots of interactive stuff for all ages. The place to go to learn about our fabulous town of Oliver. The museum is within the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Sylix Nation.

The Jailhouse light is on, is there an overnight guest . . . or is it just a ghost!!!

One more place that makes Oliver  . . .Fabulous!!

SOCS EARLY BIRD PRICES IN EFFECT UNTIL MAY 31ST

By Marion Boyd

Don’t miss the early bird prices in effect until May 31st for the next South Okanagan Concert Society season.   Get your choice of seating in the beautiful Venables Theatre.  Concerts are on Friday evenings with the curtain going up at 7:30 pm.  Look forward to four outstanding performances to cheer your spirit as the light disappears over the winter months.   At early bird prices you can get all four shows for only $76 ($19 ea).

What’s on?  First, October 12th is the Marc Atkinson Trio featuring Atkinson’s fiery but elegant guitar style, the laidback humour and ‘good time’ feel of Canada’s West Coast and a trio known for it sensually charged and ferociously awe inspiring technical skill.  Violinist Cameron Wilson, composer and arranger, will add his  much lauded talents to the mix.

November 16th, Double Double Duo will perform original arrangements of classical showpieces, sensitive jazz ballads and fiery folk music from around the globe.   Each duo member is a ‘double threat’ on two instruments:  Kornel Wolak (clarinet/piano) and Michael Bridge (accordions/piano).   Classically trained international soloists, they bring comedy, virtuosity and musical sensitivity to their broad repertoire.

Feb. 15, 2019 Duo Fortin-Poirier, made up of pianists Amelie Fortin and Marie-Christine Poirier, have distinguished themselves with fiery four-hand interpretations remarkable for their vitality and wit.   A close affinity between their playing styles along with a sharp, shared sensitivity fuel their extraordinary ensemble playing.   Since they started in 2005, this duo has made waves in Canada and abroad.  Much loved in Quebec, their albums are broadcast regularly .

Finally, on March 29th an amazing 8 cellos will be on stage with O-Celli, a musical project started in Brussels and characterized by its originality and dynamic presentation.  All 8 musicians share their passion for the extraordinary richness of their instrument.   They have performed in many European festivals in Belgium and France, toured in eastern Canada and recently performed in Switzerland and Luxembourg.  They are not to be missed.

So don’t delay.   Take advantage of the Early Bird prices and get set for a stimulating and exciting new concert season.

Art Walk 2018 Oliver!

Main Street was hopping last night! We sang and danced, enjoyed the Art and Artist in all the stores! People were talking, children were laughing and making art and the teens were awesome. The Art Walk was a great success!

Big thanks to Tara, from the Painted Chair, Penelope, Prez of the Arts Council, Councillor Mo, Marion, artist extraordinaire, Jenn from Tourism and our dancer  Andrea, the organizers of this successful event. Fabulous event!

Mikie and Kenny rocked . . .. . . and Main St. rolled!

Little ones painted houses.

The teens were out in support of Connor. More on the Barrel Artists later.

Margarete chatting with Penelope and Russell.

Colourful, beautiful Bhangra Dancers at Zen Studios.

Stealing the limelight, Andrea’s little one is ready to watch Mommy’s dance dedicated to a friends Mom with Parkinson’s. Beautiful. More on Andrea’s dance later.

Adam and Sarah and the little nephew enjoying the Art Walk.

The weather was perfect for chainsaw demos!

The houses were a great hit, Thank you Mr Mayor!

People were popping in and out of the stores enjoying the art and beverages form the local Wineries at OK Photo Photo and from the Firehall Brewery, Danielle was at Beyond Bliss.

And at the end of the day we thank the volunteers and the Whine Police.
